Quick start
- Onboarding: On first launch, pick the apps you want blocked and grant Screen Time permission.
- Start a session: Tap a session length on the home screen. Selected apps are blocked until the timer ends or you stop the session.
- Breaks: When a session ends, FocusDots starts a break automatically. Apps unblock during breaks.
- Change blocked apps: Open Settings inside the app at any time to add or remove apps.
Troubleshooting
Apps aren't being blocked
- Make sure Screen Time permission is granted: Settings → Screen Time → see "FocusDots".
- Confirm app blocking is enabled in FocusDots Settings.
- Verify at least one app is selected in your blocked list.
- Screen Time restrictions only work on a physical device (not the iOS Simulator).
The picker doesn't show my app
- Apple's app picker only shows apps installed on the device. Install the app first, then re-open the picker.
- Some system apps cannot be restricted by the Screen Time API.
Timer stopped early or didn't end on time
- Make sure FocusDots has permission to send notifications so it can alert you when a session ends.
- Force-quitting FocusDots can interrupt blocking. Leave the app running in the background.
I want to reset everything
- Delete and reinstall FocusDots. This clears all local data — there is nothing stored on a server.
- If Screen Time permission feels stuck, toggle it off and back on in Settings → Screen Time.
